The Apple TV app is now available for download on the Google Play Store, in a rare event.

The app that would let Android users watch Apple’s binge-worthy originals like “Severance” and “Ted Lasso” but also brings the MLS Season Pass for American football fans ahead ahead of the 2025 season.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman — well known for his insights into Apple’s moves — earlier in 2024 reported that the Android launch was coming, as the iPhone maker struggles to get enough subscribers.

The move, even when predicted, is rare for Apple. The iPhone maker rarely ever launches products or software outside its ecosystem.

Its music, gaming, podcasts, news — all apps are available exclusively on Apple devices.

The Tim Cook-led company is intent on finding its footing in the very-lucrative but crowded streaming video-on-demand market.

Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime, Peacock, Hulu, and HBO Max are all ahead of it in U.S. market share for SVOD.

Apple has also had to hike its prices from launch at $4.99 in the US to $9.99 per month currently for the TV+ app.
