Airtel has successfully landed the SEA-ME-WE-6 submarine cable in Chennai, enhancing connectivity on the route from Singapore to France.

The cable spans 21,700 Rkm and will boost India’s global data capacity by 220 TBPs, according to the company.

This cable landing follows a similar operation by Airtel in Mumbai on December 30, 2024.

Both cable landings would be integrated with Airtel’s data centre services Nxtra, the company said.

Airtel is a key member of the South East Asia–Middle East–Western Europe 6, or the SEA-ME-WE-6, consortium that began in February 2022 with the aim to bring telecommunications through the region via optical fibre laid out in the sea.

The project crosses Egypt through terrestrial cables.

BHARTIARTL share price was down 1.37% to ₹1693.55 on last check at the BSE.
