OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced through X late Thursday that Fidji Simo, the former Instacart CEO, will join OpenAI as the CEO of Applications.
Altman expressed enthusiasm for Simo’s new role, emphasizing their experience working together over the past year.
Simo would report directly to Altman in the role.
With the change, Altman plans to concentrate more on research, computation, and safety, critical aspects as the company navigates the landscape towards superintelligence.
Fidji Simo, before becoming CEO of Instacart in July 2021, had a commendable stint at Facebook as its head where she built out the Video, News, and Advertising sections alongside other duties.
The buzz around OpenAI not only revolves around its leadership adjustments but also its continuous enhancements in AI capabilities. Their recent o3 model showcases impressive reasoning skills by making 20% fewer major errors compared to its predecessor.
This is alongside the launch of CodeX CLI, a new coding agent, pointing towards OpenAI’s objective to democratize sophisticated AI tools and attain an influential foothold in the tech space.
OpenAI has also expanded the web search functionalities in ChatGPT and last week acquired AI coding tools maker WindSurf at a whopping $3 billion valuation.
