Suchir Balaji’s mother is reaching out to the Solana community to help raise funds to investigate into the OpenAI whistleblower’s death.
Poornima Rao shared the Solana address on social media platform X, informing that the initiative belonged to the Justice for Suchir movement.
The Solana wallet had 587.8 coins at the time of writing, valued at over $126,000.
The fundraise follows encouragement from the Solana community that was flooding Rao, who is actively advocating for an FBI investigation into her son’s death, on X and different media platforms.
Balaji, a former AI researcher at OpenAI, was found dead in his San Francisco apartment on November 26.
Authorities ruled his death a suicide; however, his parents have contested this conclusion, alleging foul play.
They have cited findings from a secondary autopsy indicating signs of struggle and head trauma, which they believe are inconsistent with suicide.
Prior to his death, Balaji had raised concerns about OpenAI’s practices, particularly regarding potential copyright infringements in training AI models like ChatGPT. He left the company in August 2024, expressing his discomfort with the ethical implications of generative AI technologies.
The Solana Fundraising: Meanwhile, this would be the second such Solana fundraiser successively.
In December, the community rallied around four-year-old Mira Chen, who was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor.
A Solana-based meme coin named MIRA was created in her honor, and within hours, it achieved a market capitalization exceeding $80 million.
This remarkable response resulted in over $14 million being donated to support brain tumor research, astonishing her father Siqi Chen.
